Overview
Nic Sandiland was one of the key artists involved the Empowerment through Art Project which resulted in a touring exhibition – Artspeaks, a celebration of hidden talents. The project helped parents and children on the extreme edge of poverty to create a number of audio-visual installations based on their poetry.

The project was initiated by the voluntary organisation ATD Fourth World, to create a unique collaboration, through regular workshops, between professional artists and people living in poverty. In all, around 170 people took part in the Empowerment through Art project including 32 professional artists and parents and children from about forty-six families, mostly from the South-East of the United Kingdom.
Presentations
The Minister for Arts, Alan Howarth, opened the exhibition on the 21st November at Diorama Arts in London. In then went on to the Castle Mall Shopping Centre in Norwich, Emmanuel Church (The United Reformed Church), Trumpington Street, Cambridge, the West End Arts Centre, Queens Road, in Guildford and St Mary’ Church, Lowgate, Kingston upon Hull.
