Flexer & Sandiland have earned considerable recognition for their thoughtful and inspiring work with communities.

We have expert knowledge in working with young people, intergenerational and 60+ groups. Our Company members regularly work in a wide variety of educational and community contexts with groups of mixed ages and abilities. Each workshop is tailor-made for each specific group.

Youth workshops

Workshops with young people focus on developing technical and creative skills. A warm-up takes participants through improvisation and set technique exercises, followed by creative work and taught repertoire drawing on the company’s current touring works. Sessions can also focus specifically on developing digital dance skills.

Sessions are designed to:

Develop technical, choreographic creative skills
Enhance understanding of dance and digital art making
Build an awareness of and practical experience in specialist software
Strengthened social skills and confidence through collaboration
Improve problem-solving skills
Develop awareness of physicality and health impacts of participation in dance

Intergenerational, community & 60+ workshops

Our workshops are designed for people with or without dance experience and are accessible to all.

Grounded in Flexer & Sandiland’s creative approach sessions bring awareness to our anatomy, using imagination and physical sensations to experience ease and pleasure in moving.

Classes lead participants through gentle movement improvisations, simple exercises and creative tasks and can include creation of work with community groups.

Develop connection to our bodies and each other through use of imagery and playful improvisations
