Digital Consultancies

If you’re a theatre practitioner, technician, dance or digital artist, who wants to upskill in the use of projection, interactive technology, and projection-mapping for installations or performances, you can benefit from a one-hour consultancy with Nic Sandiland.

We offer hourly online consultancy sessions in projection for performance/installation and live interactive video, based around the industry-standard application, Isadora.

Much of our delivery is based on the Isadora Software, Arduino sensor interface and a variety of motion sensors.

Isadora is an intuitive software programme that enables artists and creatives to manipulate projections in real-time. The software can be accessed for free to experiment and learn with. To create interactive and real-time projection based art you can purchase a licence for as little as £10 per week on an ad hoc basis.

Arduino is an easy-to-use sensor controller used to build interactive and automated arts projects. With the Arduino, you can design and build devices that can interact with your surroundings. The Arduino boards are a tool for controlling electronics. They are able to read inputs with their onboard microcontroller (eg. light on a sensor, an object near a sensor) and turn it into an output (drive a motor, trigger a video or sound).

“The session with Nic was brilliant.

His approach is bespoke and intuitive – following it I have created a whole new playground for myself to explore.

Mentoring

Yael and Nic have worked as mentors with numerous artists over the years. Supporting artists’ creative process through their expertise in choreography, movement direction, digital interactivity, and design.

Mentoring involves ongoing artistic support toward your creative practice. This can take the form of a series of drop-ins to rehearsals/working process at regular intervals over a set period of time or a more intensive one-day focus.

They can act as a sounding board for ideas, suggesting avenues to explore and techniques to draw on that might enrich your artistic projects, as well as reflecting on where your work might sit within a wider artistic context.

Yael and Nic have worked with diverse artists across art forms including dance, live art, visual art, film, theatre, community and children’s work.
