Flexer & Sandiland’s team of highly skilled professional dancers lead inspiring tailor-made programmes for students at different levels, as well as teacher training.

Teacher Inset workshops
Our workshops range from one-off half day workshops to longer residences drawing on Flexer & Sandiland’s signature choreographic style and unique approach to digital dance and collaboration.
All full day workshops can lead to the creation of curtain raisers that can be performed alongside the company or in school and beyond.
Our dancers regularly work in a wide variety of educational and community contexts with groups of mixed ages and abilities.
Dance workshops
Our dance workshops and bespoke commissions combine dynamic fast-paced movement phrases with creative tasks giving participants a first-hand experience of Flexer & Sandiland’s repertory.
KS2 Dance
Half-day to full day workshops begin with warm-up exercises combining creative games and gradually introduce dance skills including: improvisation, contact improvisation, choreography, and where relevant, company repertoire based on our current touring production Imagining Otherwise.
KS3-5 Dance
GCSE, BTEC, A/AS level
Workshops range from half-day, one-day to short residencies and can include technique, contact improvisation, collaborative creative work and repertoire based on our current touring production Imagining Otherwise.
Workshops can focus on creation of curtain raisers or short commissioned works presented alongside a company performance, in school and beyond.
The Digital Traces workshop provides students with an insight into performance with live interactive projection. Through our custom-made digital work, students can experience how choreography and movement can create visually striking mark-making as they move through the space.
Digital Traces workshops are also offered via The Royal Opera House Bridge as part of the Thurrock Trailblazers Cultural project.
Digital Traces Workshop
KS2 Digital Traces
This one-day workshop uses interactive motion detection and projection to explore how movement might leave a mark or a trace, playing with the idea of drawing and erasing.
Using your body as a brush choreographic tasks focus on movement, trace and shape which produce visually impressive imagery projected on screen.
KS3-5 Digital Traces
This one-day workshop uses interactive motion detection and projection to explore how movement might leave a mark or a trace, playing with the idea of drawing and erasing.
Choreographic tasks focus on movement, trace and shape, integrating partnering and lifts to create dance sequences. This creates visually impressive imagery projected on screen.
By the end of the workshop the groups have created a short work that is performed with accompanying interactive projections. You can receive a copy of the projection that can be screened for future presentations without the need of interactive technology. We can split the workshop into two shorter sessions to work with two groups in one day.

Teacher Inset Workshop
This workshop can focus on dance specific skills, depending on your requirements. This includes: technique, contact improvisation, company repertoire, work with text and choreography.
Workshops can also focus on digital dance skills ‘dance for camera’, projection in performance or an introduction to interactive programming using the educational software Isadora.
