Benchmark by Flexer & Sandiland. A black and white altered image of several male and female performers moving along a platform. Some of the figured are overlayed on each other.

Benchmark was a permanent installation commissioned by Artsdepot in North London, and winner of a Milly Apthorp Trust award 2006. The work integrated the everyday actions of the public around a long bench to create a continuously evolving choreograph based on sitting and standing.

Viewers sitting on different parts of the bench activated specific video clips projected onto the opposite wall. The performers in each of the clips react in different ways depending on how many viewers are on the bench and where they are sitting.
